Overwhelmed by Stress??!!

The additional Stress of this winter season has a great impact on your body and emotions.  You are (still) trying to lose the holiday weight, concerned about the weather for the early morning commute…worrying if you will still have a job to commute to!

It becomes quite easy to develop a stress disorder at this time of year.  I can help you with your stress management during this winter season.

Adrenal stress is a silent epidemic pervading today’s society… “the mouse that roars!”

75-90% of primary care visits are related to the adverse impact of psychological stress.

What is stress?

According to Hans Selye and W. Cannon (1935-6), stress is a state of threatened homeostasis. (the term was borrowed from physics)

A stressor is any agent or condition which threatens homeostasis (homeostasis refers to balance in the body)

There are at least three types of stressors

  1. Environmental
  2. Mental
  3. Physical

The Adrenal Glands are considered the stress glands. The healthier the Stress Glands the less stress you will notice in your life because the adrenals can handle without taking it’s toll on you.

There are Three Phase to adrenal failure: Hans Selye (1956)

  1. Alarm Phase
  2. Resistance Phase
  3. Exhaustion Phase.

Cole Slaw

A Medium Head of Green Cabbage (or Purple if you like)

A Large Cucumber

A Small Onion

Organic Mayonnaise

Sea Salt

Slice the cabbage very thin (this is important).

Cut cucumber in 1/4 inch slices. Then quarter each slice.

Mince half of the onion.

Mix these three ingredients thoroughly in a bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise (add more to personal taste). Salt as desired.

Cover and refrigerate for one hour before serving.

Basic Vinaigrette

1/3 Cup Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

3 Tbls. Organic Apple Cider

1 Tsp. Oregno Leaves

1/2 Tsp. Salt

1/8 Tsp. Pepper

Mix in a container and refrigerate ahead of time.  Let sit out just a few minutes before using.

Dijon Olive Oil Dressing

1/2 Cup Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

6 Tbls. Organic Balsamic Vinegar or Lemon Juice

6 Tbls. Water

1 Tsp. Organic Dijon Mustard

1/8 Tsp. Oregano

Salt & Pepper to taste

1 Minced Garlic Clove

Combine all ingredients into an air tight jar or carafe and shake vigorously to blend.

Tahini Dressing

Mix 2 Tbls. of sesame tahini with lemon juice to taste.  Mix a little water for desired consistency.
